Before anyone climbs a ladder, we walk the outside of your home and check the things hail hits on its way down:
Dents and marks on these surfaces are often easier to see than hits on shingles, and they give us a first read on how hard the storm hit your home before we go up.
We work our way around the house: front, right, back, left. Hail often comes in at an angle, so one side of a home can take more hits than another. Walking all four sides in order means nothing gets skipped, and it helps show which way the storm came from.
Once we know what the ground is telling us, we go up and check the roof itself:
We look at everything that's up there, not just the easy spots, and we document all the damage we find.
We photograph the damage we find, up close and in context, so you can see what we saw and where it sits on your home. When we come down, we walk you through the photos in plain language: what we found, where it is and whether it matters. If we don't find storm damage, we tell you that too.

You often cannot tell from the ground. Hail can bruise shingles, loosen granules and dent flashing and vents in ways that are hard to see from the ground. Dented gutters and dings on AC units are good clues that the roof took hits too.

That's your choice. Many homeowners have a roofer check first so they know whether there is any damage before they decide to file. Others call their insurance company first, and that's fine too. Either way, check your policy for its time limits on reporting storm damage. We never file a claim on your behalf. If you decide to file, you file it with your insurance company.
