Why Atlas makes sense in Colorado hail country
Atlas makes two shingles with a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest impact rating an asphalt shingle can earn: Pinnacle® Impact and StormMaster® Shake. For the Class 4 test, shingles are hit repeatedly with a steel ball that simulates a 2-inch hailstone. To pass, the back of the shingle can’t show any cracks or fractures.
Both use polymer-modified asphalt (Core4® Technology in StormMaster), which makes the shingle more flexible and resilient than standard asphalt.
To be clear, Class 4 means hail-resistant, not hail-proof. A big enough storm can still damage any roof.
About insurance discounts: some insurance companies offer lower premiums for homes with Class 4 impact-rated roofs. It varies by insurer and policy, so ask your insurer before you choose a shingle. Good questions to ask:
- Do you offer a discount for a Class 4 roof, and how much?
- Does a Class 4 roof change my deductible or my roof coverage (for example, cosmetic-damage exclusions or actual-cash-value roof terms)?
- What proof of the Class 4 rating do you need after installation?
The Atlas shingles we install
Every Atlas shingle below uses the HP42® format: a wider 42-inch shingle with a Sweet Spot™ nailing area and double FASTAC® sealant line. That means fewer shingles and nails per roof, and more room for our crews to place each nail correctly.
Pinnacle® Impact: Class 4 protection at a practical price
Pinnacle Impact is Atlas’s more affordable Class 4 shingle and our usual pick for hail-damaged homes. It carries the UL 2218 Class 4 rating, a wind warranty up to 130 mph, 3M™ Scotchgard™ Protector against algae streaks, and 3M™ Smog-Reducing Granules. Atlas offers it in six colors, including Weathered Wood, Pewter and Black Shadow (availability varies by region).
StormMaster® Shake: premium Class 4 performance
StormMaster Shake is Atlas’s top-of-the-line shingle. It’s built with Core4® polymer-modified technology and carries a Class 4 impact rating and a Class A fire rating. Atlas backs it with a wind warranty up to 150 mph when it’s installed to Atlas’s requirements. It also has Scotchgard™ Protector and 3M smog-reducing granules. It’s the pick for homeowners who plan to stay put and want the strongest Atlas option.
Pinnacle® Pristine: the everyday architectural shingle
Pinnacle Pristine is Atlas’s standard architectural shingle. It has a Class 3 impact rating, a wind warranty up to 130 mph, Scotchgard™ Protector, and one of Atlas’s widest color selections. It’s a strong choice when the budget calls for a quality architectural roof rather than a Class 4 upgrade.
Pinnacle® Sun: a reflective “cool roof” option
Pinnacle Sun uses 3M™ Cool Roofing Granules to reflect more of the sun’s heat instead of passing it into your attic. It also has a Class 3 impact rating, a wind warranty up to 130 mph, Scotchgard™ Protector and smog-reducing granules. Ask us which colors are available locally.
ProLam®: dependable value
ProLam is Atlas’s value laminated shingle. It has a Class 3 impact rating, a wind warranty up to 130 mph, and built-in algae resistance. It’s a good fit for budget-driven projects, rentals and larger multifamily roofs.
Atlas shingles that help clean the air
Three of the Atlas lines we install (Pinnacle Impact, StormMaster Shake and Pinnacle Sun) are made with 3M™ Smog-Reducing Granules. These granules have a coating that reacts with sunlight and breaks smog down into ions that wash off in the rain. Atlas says an average-size roof with these granules has the smog-fighting capacity of two to three trees.
That matters on the Front Range, where summer smog is a regular problem. You get a roof built for hail that also does a little for the air your family breathes, with nothing extra to maintain. Ask us which smog-reducing colors are available for your home.
The Atlas Signature Select® warranty
Atlas offers a Lifetime Limited Warranty on these shingles for single-family detached homes. You get stronger coverage when the whole roof is an Atlas Signature Select® Roofing System: Atlas shingles, matching Atlas hip and ridge shingles, Atlas premium underlayment over the entire deck, and at least one qualifying Atlas accessory, such as Pro-Cut® starter shingles.
With a registered Signature Select system, Atlas extends the Premium Protection Period, the first years when coverage is non-prorated:
- StormMaster® Shake: 20 years
- Pinnacle® Impact, Pinnacle® Sun, Pinnacle Pristine and ProLam®: 15 years
- (Atlas’s standard limited warranty: 10 years)
During that period, Atlas’s warranty covers non-prorated labor and materials for manufacturing defects, including tear-off and disposal when needed. The coverage can be transferred once to the next owner within the first 10 years. How Blue Peaks installs an Atlas roof

- Match the shingle to you. We weigh your budget, how long you plan to stay, and your insurance deductible. Pinnacle Impact or StormMaster Shake isn’t automatically the right answer for every home.
- Spec the full Atlas system. We order Atlas starter, underlayment and hip and ridge along with the shingles, so the roof qualifies for Signature Select.
- Install to Atlas’s instructions. Our crews follow Atlas’s printed application instructions, including nailing in the Sweet Spot™ zone.
- Register your warranty and hand over the paperwork. You get your warranty documents plus photos of the finished roof.

Are Atlas shingles good for Colorado hail?
Atlas’s two Class 4 shingles, Pinnacle Impact and StormMaster Shake, carry the highest impact rating available for asphalt shingles (UL 2218 Class 4). They resist hail much better than standard shingles, but no roof is hail-proof.
Will a Class 4 Atlas roof lower my homeowners insurance?
It might. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4 roofs, but it depends on your insurer and your policy. Ask your insurer before you choose, and ask whether it affects your deductible or roof coverage.
What’s the difference between Pinnacle Impact and StormMaster Shake?

How do I get the Atlas Signature Select warranty?

Can I choose Atlas shingles for an insurance hail claim?
